My practice as an art museum interpreter is about connecting people with art and ideas. A key strategy is what I call supported reflection: moments within an exhibition with prompts for discussion, writing, and reflection that encourage visitors to dig deeper into their experiences with works of art and find connections to their own lived experiences.

Pictured here is a reflection space I collaboratively developed for the exhibition Sally Mann: A Thousand Crossings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Visitors could take reflection cards as a momento of their exhibition experience and were also encouraged to contribute their thoughts to the digital display of audience responses, seen here along side an interpretive video about the artist’s work.
